I find resumes anachronistic and fairly unhelpful in understanding what a person is all about and what skills they truly posses. However, here is my concession to conformity: (may be a little out of date)

Updated 8/14/09:
You know what? This is my senior year. Pretty soon I will have to either continue expanding my own company or work with some amazing company, with amazing people. Those are the 2 choices.
The college’s Career Services would not be happy about what I am going to say next but… oh well.
I am no longer actively updating my resume. You know, that static, conventional, immediately outdated document that gets shoved into a stack of papers with 3 dozen other homogeneous pieces of paper.
Nope, I’m done actively playing that game.
If your organization wants to hire me as an employee or a consultant and is inflexible enough that it needs my resume, then we may not be a good fit.
If you really want a resume-style piece of paper I will be happy to forward you a PDF copy of my LinkedIn profile. It has the places / dates of where I have worked and even a summary.
Don’t misunderstand me, please! This is not hubris or some kind of arrogant bitterness. I just don’t feel the resume fits well with who I am and the world in which I live.
We live in a different world than the one the conventional resume/CV has served for the last centuries. It is a dynamic, constantly changing world and moves at the speed of light. Paper does not.
So what is my alternative?
I’ve poured my passion and soul into all kinds of projects and content online. Take a look at my blog posts, see the projects I have worked on, check out what people say about me on LinkedIn. If you have a good reason, “friend” me and see my personal side on Facebook. Why not do a Google search?
Ask the people I am connected to on LinkedIn about me. See if my clients have had a good experience dealing with me.
These are the best ways you are going to get to know me, my capabilities and most importantly, my passions.
The piece of paper thing just fails in conveying “me.” Sure, it will give you some dates and facts, but that is not really me.
Thanks for understanding,
Blake Imeson
